Activation Error - Excel Cannot Access .xll

This information applies to Jet Reports 2018 and earlier,and requires installation permissions and access to the MS Office installation media

Overview

An error can occur when activating the Jet Excel add-in if Visual Basic for Applications is not installed with Excel.  If you attempt to automatically activate the Jet Excel add-in, you may receive a message like the following that suggests that you try to manually activate:

If you then attempt to manually activate the add-in, you may receive an error like the following that explains that Excel cannot access the .xll file:

Resolution Process

Install Visual Basic for Applications for Microsoft Excel and retry the activation for the Jet Excel add-in.

Please read all instructions before proceeding

  1. Start the Windows Control Panel. Click Programs and Features.

  2. Browse to and select Microsoft Office and click Change. You may need to insert your Microsoft Office CD at this point.

  3. Select Add or Remove Features and click Continue

  4. When choosing Installation Options, expand Office Shared Features , click Visual Basic for Applications , and select Run from My Computer

  5. Click Continue and then Close. You are now ready to retry the activation of the Jet Excel add-in.
