Simulating Jet Basics with Jet Reports

Overview

In order to allow report Designers to test that reports created with the full Jet Excel add-in will also operate as expected in Jet Basics, the Jet Reports Excel add-in is able to simulate Jet Basics.

Instructions

  1. From the Jet ribbon in Excel, go to Settings > App Settings.

  2. On the General tab, you'll see that the Simulation Mode option is set to None. This indicates that Jet add-in is operating in its normal "non-simulating" mode.

  3. By changing this option to Jet Basics ...

    and selecting a Jet Basics data source of a type compatible with Jet Basics:

    • Dynamics NAV 2009 R2
    • Dynamics NAV 2013 - 2018 (Web Services)
    • Dynamics NAV 2013 - 2018 (SQL Server)
    • Dynamics GP

    you will now be able to use the Jet Excel add-in just as if you were using Jet Basics...

    Features not available in Jet Basics will redirect to the insightsoftware web site.

  4. You will notice that the Data Source Type button on the Data Source Settings window is disabled while in Jet Basics mode.

    If you need to change the data source while simulating Jet Basics, you can do so from the App Settings window.

     

Note: If you do not have an appropriate Dynamics data source [NAV 2009 R2, NAV 2013 and later, or GP], the Jet Basics simulation mode will not be available.
