Upload Reports to SharePoint Using the Jet Scheduler

This article will walk you through the process that allows you to automatically upload information to SharePoint via a report emailed through the Jet Reports Scheduler. To achieve this you will need to configure SharePoint to receive incoming emails and then create a document library that will take the information from the email and detach the file into the Library.

  1. Go to the SharePoint Server and go to the Central Administration section. From there, click Operations. In the Incoming Email Settings, make sure the Enable Sites on the server to receive email? option is set to Yes and the information in the Email server display address section is setup with your correct email server.

  2. You need to create a document library to store the files in. Once this library has been created, go to the Settings section for this library and click the Incoming Email Settings section.

Make sure that you have selected Yes under the Allow the document library to receive email section. In the field below for E-Mail Address you need to specify the email address that the incoming emails will be sent to.

Any emails that are sent to this address will be added to the Document Library and any attachment on these emails will be detached and added to this library.  When you are setting up the Jet Reports Scheduler to run the report you will need to go to the Advanced tab and click the radio button that says Email to addresses in a specified list. Then you will want to insert the email address that you assigned to the Document Library into this field.

When the scheduled report is run it will email to the Sharepoint server and then be placed in this document library.

Due to permissions updates (KB2836942 and KB283693) for the Windows Task Scheduler published by Microsoft for Windows XP and higher, if you plan to use the Jet Scheduler with Jet Essentials 2012 R2 or earlier, you must start Excel by right-clicking the Excel.exe file and selecting "Run as Administrator." This approach is compatible with all versions of Windows except Windows Server 2003. For Server 2003 and all versions of Jet Essentials that support it, the only way to access Windows Scheduled Tasks is to allow the specific Jet user full administrator privileges.
