Report Options Window Appears Off-Screen on Multi-Monitor Setup
Issue
When running a report in Jet Reports on a notebook PC with external monitors attached, clicking Run does not display the Report Options window on any visible screen. The window opens but is drawn off-screen.
Environment
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Product | Jet Reports |
| Hardware | Notebook PC with one or more external monitors |
Cause
Windows remembers the last position of application windows. When an external monitor is disconnected after a report has been run, the Report Options window retains its previous coordinates and is drawn in the off-screen position the next time it opens.
Resolution
- Use the steps below to move the off-screen Report Options window back to a visible monitor.
- Before following these steps, practice the keyboard combination on a visible window so you are confident with it before applying it to a window you cannot see.
- Click Run to start the report.
- Wait for the Report Options window to open. The window will not appear on screen, but it will be running in the background.
- Click the Report Options entry in the Windows Taskbar to confirm it is the active window.
- Press ALT+SHIFT+SPACEBAR, then press M, then press the right arrow key once.
- Move your mouse. The Report Options window will attach to your mouse cursor.
- Drag the window to a visible area of your screen and release the mouse button.
- Set your filters and click Run.
Additional Notes
Practice the keyboard shortcut (ALT+SHIFT+SPACEBAR > M > right arrow key) on any visible window before attempting it on the off-screen Report Options window. This confirms the combination works as expected on your system and makes the recovery steps easier to follow when the window is not visible.
