Report Options Window Appears Off-Screen on Multi-Monitor Setup

Issue

When running a report in Jet Reports on a notebook PC with external monitors attached, clicking Run does not display the Report Options window on any visible screen. The window opens but is drawn off-screen.

Environment

Component Detail
Product Jet Reports
Hardware Notebook PC with one or more external monitors

Cause

Windows remembers the last position of application windows. When an external monitor is disconnected after a report has been run, the Report Options window retains its previous coordinates and is drawn in the off-screen position the next time it opens.

Resolution

  • Use the steps below to move the off-screen Report Options window back to a visible monitor.
  • Before following these steps, practice the keyboard combination on a visible window so you are confident with it before applying it to a window you cannot see.
  • Click Run to start the report.
  • Wait for the Report Options window to open. The window will not appear on screen, but it will be running in the background.
  • Click the Report Options entry in the Windows Taskbar to confirm it is the active window.
  • Press ALT+SHIFT+SPACEBAR, then press M, then press the right arrow key once.
  • Move your mouse. The Report Options window will attach to your mouse cursor.
  • Drag the window to a visible area of your screen and release the mouse button.
  • Set your filters and click Run.

Additional Notes

Practice the keyboard shortcut (ALT+SHIFT+SPACEBAR > M > right arrow key) on any visible window before attempting it on the off-screen Report Options window. This confirms the combination works as expected on your system and makes the recovery steps easier to follow when the window is not visible.
